Overview

This state-funded ($2495 value) instructor-led course introduces the fundamentals of information technology. It is designed for individuals considering a career in IT, those who want to broaden their technical knowledge, or business professionals seeking a better understanding of computing basics. The CompTIA IT Fundamentals (Tech+) course covers essential IT concepts and terminology, networking, security, software development, and database fundamentals.

Prerequisites

Proficiency in basic computer operations, including file management and internet browsing, a laptop/home computer, and internet access to practice lessons outside of class.

Program Description

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals (Tech+) certification is an entry-level credential designed to help individuals understand core IT knowledge and skills. This course provides hands-on practice to build confidence in working with IT concepts, helping students prepare for further certifications or entry-level IT roles.

This course covers

  • IT Concepts & Terminology – Understanding basic computing principles.

  • Infrastructure – Identifying computer hardware, peripheral devices, and storage solutions.

  • Applications & Software – Learning about different operating systems and software applications.

  • Software Development – Exploring the basics of programming logic and database fundamentals.

  • Security – Understanding best practices for secure computing and online safety.

  • Networking – Learning about internet connectivity, wireless networking, and basic troubleshooting.

 

Certification

The course includes the CompTIA IT Fundamentals (Tech+) certification exam, scheduled at the end of class. CompTIA Tech+ is an industry-recognized credential that validates foundational IT skills and knowledge.

Program Requirements

Individuals must successfully complete state-required program enrollment, which includes: Registration when classes are enrolling, TABE reading assessment, Indiana Career Explorer (interest assessment), and the WinLearning Soft Skills course.
