Paraprofessional Certification Exam

Testing and class location: Washington Twp Adult Ed office  - 8401 Westfield Blvd. (enter door #4 on the back side of the building) | Indianapolis 46240. Located inside the Washington Township Services building across the street from the Jordan YMCA.

Who needs this certification?
If you already have a Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or at least 60 college credit hours, you do not need Paraprofessional Certification to work in K–12 schools as an instructional assistant or substitute teacher.

The Paraprofessional Certification is intended for individuals seeking employment as an instructional assistant or substitute teacher in an elementary, middle, or high school.

About the Certification Exam:

• 90 multiple-choice questions

• 2.5 hours

• Covers reading, math, and writing skills

• Includes questions on applying these skills in the classroom

• A high school diploma is not required to take the exam, but is needed to work in a school position​

Two Options Available:

1. Certification Exam Only- You will be contacted soon after filling out the interest form with information to begin enrollment.

2. Paraprofessional Prep Class + Exam- Take a short 6-week daytime preparation class, with the Paraprofessional Exam administered at the end of the course. Fill out the appropriate interest form to be sent enrollment steps when class opens for enrollment.

 

Requirements for taking the Parapro Exam - 

Participants will begin by registering in our program by filling out a registration online and taking a TABE assessment in Reading  (approximately 1 hour and 40 minute assessment). The TABE assessment results give us a good indication that you can pass the Parapro Exam.  Participants must achieve the minimum required score (M550) on the TABE Reading assessment to continue to the Parapro exam.

You do not have to live or work in Washington Township to take the Parapro Exam.​
